After the primary episode of Nipah virus scare which rocked Kerala for few months in 2018, the state is now facing another health emergency situation. Life is normal in Thrissur, the cultural capital of the state, where the dreaded killer bug Coronavirus infected student is admitted within the government medical college. The fear of being infected with the virus is slowly spreading though people are call at streets, roads and shopping centres without wearing face masks.
Life is normal within the town and no-one is seen wearing face masks here., everyone, but it ln the auto rickshaw drivers or the office goers are mainly talking about the viral infection . Since it’s the primary case within the state, there’s no panic situation like that of the Nipah outbreak,’ said Rakesh Namboothiri, a resident of Thrissur.
As per the instructions of the district medical office, an ambulance driver from our hospital transported the patient to Thrissur general hospital. Since he’s within the patient’s contact list, he has been anesthetize observation. Though, everything is in check the hospital staff closely interacted with the driving force are concerned,’ said a staff at a government hospital in Thrissur district.
Health minister K.K Shylaja urged those returned from virus infected countries to not attend public functions. ‘It is best to postpone functions like marriages. Those returned from China who haven’t reported to the health authorities should immediately approach the authorities,” she said.
Meanwhile, reports of nine samples of suspected cases, which were sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) Pune, are still awaited by state authorities. Authorities hope to start testing for the virus within the city within three days, and after an attempt , they’re going to stop sending samples to NIV Pune.
